..the rest of the model is screwed up. one side looks fine, but that back coudn't be cut, because there was a thickness problem...didn't want to cut the rest to keep something for drawings. John will cut another for RIBA 1

sun diagram through gallery

these digrams are killing me...they erase themselves, or they refuse to open...end of year bugs i guess....either way, the idea is, that i show 3 reflections for each sun ray shown, during each time of day...along with a gradiant contour map below that will show the overall lighting condition and how it changes throughout the day. It will be an A1. I have also finshed the plan for my physical model of my gallery....steel strips and plastic strips, MANY OF THEM will be attached to create the form of the gallery and will be able to split to show the internal condition. of course i still need to finish the one shown below, but that will be taken care of soon.
Plan till Monday.
Sections: 4 section through the gallery showing 3 different lighting conditions.
Explination of the difference between the two surfaces for the surface gallery, and the 2 for the object gallery
a CLEAN explination of how the gallery form in driven by lighting respective lighting conditions. this will be very important i think...and get everything prepared for the model making.
maybe i'll throw an animation in there as well
QUESTION: should I spend time getting a digital presentation ready?

manifesto

MAciej Woroniecki

Process of Light Containment

In order to build with light I want to be able to capture it in order to control the amount I work with. In order to optimally use natural light entering an enclosed space I must first contain it within an area that harnesses and intensifies it as best as possible. After this I can mould the light I’ve gained to suit my program.

This process is obtained through TWO SURFACES which, while defining the structure, contain and control light. The space in-between these surfaces will be the containment area. Light entering the containment area will flow through slits covering the length of the gallery, which grow and shrink in length and width depending on the exhibits immediately adjacent. Once light has penetrated into the containment area, it reflects off of the many curved surfaces that peel down from the openings of the outer surface and the white inner floor. The intense diffuse and direct light then passes through a second surface to the exhibition area of the gallery. The inner surface envelopes the entire exhibit space of the gallery. This inner surface is a controlling surface, guiding light to exhibits and manipulating the type of light that illuminates the work within.

outer layer...WORKS

quite a nice little discovery in this test. The closer i can get the outer louvers to the base of the floor, as i've accidentally done in my plan, the more surface i attain to relfect off of, giving me a higher diffuse level, and more overall light to take further to the exhibition area.
need some drawing of this.

GRUESOM PLAN

IT HAS TAKEN ME FOREVER TO MAKE THIS PLAN...I DONT KNOW IF ITS BEEN WORTH IT....I NEED TO FIGURE OUT A WAY OF MAKING THE SLIVERS INBETWEEN MY SURFACES NOT LOOK LIKE SIMPLE LOUVERS. AFTER SUGGESTIONS MADE DURING TUTORIAL, I'VE TAKEN THE INBETWEEN SPACES (BETWEEN THE EXHIBITS) AND USED THEM AS CONTAINMENT AREAS TO BRING IN LIGHT FROM THE SIDE OPPOSITE THE SUN ( NORTH SIDE YA). THIS COULD BE INTERESTING. I HAVE WAISTED SO MUCH TIME ON THE 3-D MODEL...NEED TO SOMEHOW MAKE IT SIMPLER...THE MODEL THAT IS. WILL SPEND THE REST OF THE NIGHT WORKING ON A LIGHT DRAWING...WHICH I THINK WILL GO WELL NEXT TO THIS DRAWING...AND A DETAIL SHOWING HOW THE LIGHT PENITRATES INTO THE GALLERY FROM THE LIGHT CONTAINING 'WELLS'...COULD BE GOOD FOR MY THIN TS.

crap render...good future

bleeding-good.jpg now that i can render the lighting condition that occurs on the inside of the gallery i can adjust my containing spaces according to time of day, and where the are meant to spill the light. i have decided that i will configure the main light capturing openings according to 3 times of day. 9:00, 12:00, and 16:00. this way with three seperate positions of the sun i can allow for a continuous spillage of light to happen through the gallery by adjusting to openings to act on all three times of day...i think this is going to mean reconfiguring the interior spaces and connection..which i 'think' is good because this way light will be leading the direction in which my gallery will go....finally?

spaces

really i should in a way start from scratch but it seems that the spaces i am going for and a way to make two surfaces do what i want, can be done...after making all the adjustments that i am suppose to make to the gallery i will start to focus on my TS again....Javier has been booked up since yesterday...there is a 15 person waiting list...but tomorrow i will try to get inbetween tutorials....need to take pictures and re-do the plan AFTER the 3-D model has been done....not to mention i think that the building needs more openings and possibly more 'capture spaces'.

gallery circulation and definition

here is my justification for my gallery and the way it is situated on site. first i have placed a grid over the site (2m x 2m) then through chossing a path through the gallery from all the possible routes, the gallery begins to become defined through seperation, and then through the area needed for capturing light seperated the galleries further. because there are different levels of controlling light, the seperation widths differ.

SIMPLE LAYOUT

i'm trying to explain my procedure as simply as i can. basically the galleries connect with one-another and they run sort of parrallel to eachother. the bottom bits are studies of how i can get the optimized configuration. this is where my mind gets to me...how do i justify moving the connections...ITHINK its getting somewhere but the way i move them is just trying to see what possibilities i have....i guess this is where scripting would help out.

GOOD day, MANY failures

well today I found to be a very productive day....almost everything didn't work out the way I had imagined...which was actually quite good i thought....except for my CNC thing. something got screwed up with the file and what cam out was a big bubkass. it would have really looked super duper, but the second cut was too far down.....not exactly sure, will have to go over it with John when he comes back,......Monday. was hopeing to have them done, but no chance....either way, making these things today really helped me to think a bit straighter about the gallery and what I want to do in it, as well as how. already set in my mind is how to layout the gallery, Thanks to Natasha and Monia, and what kinds of test i can do, to capture and control light. From now on the goal for me is...at least 2 CNC models per week, and one workshop made model per week. evenings for drawing when i'm in the workshop. need to really experiment...on things that need experimenting....so maybe i should figure out what those things are first.
